IL Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements
For Illinois, each level of appraiser license has the same Continuing Education requirements, or CE. Continuing Education is a common industry standard across real estate professions (e.g., real estate agents, brokers, etc.). Most states require CE to ensure there is an ongoing standard to hold industry professionals accountable and keep them updated on industry practices, and the latest laws and regulations.
Continuing Education Requirements for All Illinois Appraisal License Types
Illinois appraisers are required to take a total of 28 Hours of Illinois CE every 2 years. Courses must consist of the following:
7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course (or equivalent), which must be completed within six months after the effective date of USPAP
7-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course or 4-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course*
*The first time a Licensee completes the Continuing Education requirement for this course, the course length must be 7 hours. If a Licensee successfully completed a 7-hour (plus 1-hour exam) course as part of their Qualifying Education, they have satisfied this requirement. Every 2 calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least 4 hours.
Additionally, a 1-hour CE course in sexual harassment prevention training is required within the same renewal period.
